Friendly Fire
By Kirsty Nottage
On a hard stool outside the head honcho’s office, I waited.
It wasn’t my fault, but who’d believe me?
I’d been thrilled to become a cupid, one of thousands serving beneath the boss, spreading love worldwide.
Yes, I shouldn’t have armed an arrow without a target. Yes, I shouldn’t have been distracted by a helicopter, or fired upward.
But I never imagined this.
The assistant waved me in.
I should have been excited to meet Cupid himself. I wasn’t.
“1573,” he beamed, walking towards me, arms outstretched. “I never thought I’d find love myself.”
He blew a kiss.
I winced.
