Muse-Trap
By J.I. Locatelli

I dropped a smidgen of an idea into a trap woven of wit and whimsy and waited. I needn’t plant that seed of an idea and water it with experience; my Muse would do the work, once captured.
I buried my head in the clouds, daydreaming of fame and fortune. The muse crawled from a hole in my wall, first with four legs and then with six. It surveyed the room with twelve eyes, then two. Its nostrils twitched in interest.
It inched into my cage and I snapped the door shut.
Alas, trapped against its will, my Muse died.
J.I. Locatelli lives in Miami, Florida with her wife, Natalia, and dog, Antigone. She wishes she was more of a sunshine and beaches person, but finds herself drawn to a warm cup of tea and a good thunderstorm. Her short fiction can be found in Elegant Literature and Story Street.
